Worth Watching????
The Democrats may give us a National Convention worth watching after all.
For soooooo long both the Democrats and Republicans have had essentially boring conventions. Hardly worth watching since the nomine was a forgone conclusion long before the convention was held. No suprizes to see, no “dark horse” contentder to come out and steal the nomination, just a dull celebration of whomever had racked up the majority of deligates.
But this year there are undercurrents that could make the whole Democratic Convention worth watching.
First, the largest finger in Obama’s eye is that supporters of Hillary Clinton are producing print and television commercials to be aired in Denver during the convention; in addition they are scheduling Hillary rallays. This would not be happening without the tacit approval of Senator Clinton.
Those ads are meant to change the minds of Super Delegates, a true potential wild card. The Super Delegates, (a DNC creation), can change their minds at any time. Without notice. Without warning. So those who have “pledged” to support Obama could change their vote on the convention floor and vote for Hillary, or anyone else for that matter.
Notice that Hillary’s major money donors have not contributed one penny to Obama’s campaign, which means they are still backing Clinton. So much for party unity. I would suspect that these are the people puting up the cash for the Hillary advertising coming to Denver. To me this also suggests that behind the scenes influential people are continuing to make phone calls to the Super Delegates pushing for Hillary, and every time Obama makes a stupid mistake, (like not visiting U.S. troops in the hospital), she gains a bit more credibility.
And there is one more possible person to come to Hillary’s side: John Edwards.
Edwards got out of the race for the nomination and supported Obama in exchange for a prime speaking positon at the Convention. However, now that his affair has come to light it appears doubtful he will be given any speaking opportunity. Revenge is a powerful motivator and it could cause Edwards to call his pledged delegates and urge them to switch to Clinton. This would be especially true if she is willing to give him a Cabnet post, (she is used to dealing with cheating men), something Obama will probably not be willing to do now.
So there you have it, my reasons to watch the Democrat’s National Convention in a couple of weeks.
- Ads for Hillary,
- events for Hillary,
- behnd the scenes phone calls to Super Delegates,
- and the possibility of support from Edwards.
To top it all off there is of course the prediction of riots if Obama didn’t get the nomination; that came from either Al Sharpton or Rev. Jackson, I honestly don’t remember. And let us not forget that there is an organization out there called Recreate 68, which is encouraging civil disobedience during the Convention.
How could anyone NOT watch the Democrats Convention? The possibility of a political bloodbath floor fight, backstabbing, riots, and the colapse of any semblance of Democrat party unity. Man, I’m going to be glued to the television.
Thant’s my 2 cents
